It is rather difficult to make certain kinds of engraving molds with the open tire thread design for off-road tires. Changing mold's design using steel inserts results in the quality decrease due to the deformations when cooling down the inserts. We managed to resolve this problem by using special cast iron for the inserts. Cast iron has high foundry properties and practically does not deform while cooling. One of the first projects using this approach was manufacturing a mold for tire 16/70-20 model D-50 for JSC "Dneproshina". We have got very good responses from a client and consider molds with special iron stitches to be a good alternative for the open tire thread design molds.

We have delivered the first mold for tire 33,00-51 model F-273 in September, 17, 2002. Our customer is Ukrainian Scientific Research Center of overly large tires. We have developed it together with Southern machine-building factory in 5 months. The customer has accepted the mold after the first presentation. Tires manufactured using this mold, is substantially differ in surface quality and severity of the geometrical forms. The superimposed elements are developed from 2 parts using steel molding on smelted models. The mold has the following dimensions: External: - Diameter mm 3250 - Height mm 1195 - Maximal dimension mm 3460 - Weight kg 27100 Internal: - Diameter of tire mm 3065 - Height of tire mm 900 - Height of a superimposed element mm 75 - Quantity of steps 40 - Quantity of apertures for air removal 3860 Six such molds will be made. Simultaneously we developed mold for a scaled copy of the tire: 1:20. The scaled tires are used for marketing: it is an unusual present and souvenir for the potential tires buyers. We gave this mold to our customer as a gift to show our appreciation.
